Rant 744 / Letter of Authorisation

So if I were to transfer the mobile phone account to my name without the actual subscriber's presence, I need a letter of authorisation signed by the subscriber. For my case I've called Starhub to check and that guy told me to bring the letter and the subscriber's actual NRIC (unfortunately) to any of the Starhub offices. There's one at Raffles Place, another at Plaza Singapura and yet another at Vivocity. Probably more but I don't really care.

After learning how to create the required letter from this website, I made one of my own, which isn't too different from theirs. But who cares? It's just a general purpose letter of authorisation.

Still I linked the above to a Dropbox download link in case I need it in the far future. This is actually a pretty powerful document with the proper signature because it basically grants the holder all the rights and powers wielded by the person who signed it. I called the two parties "transferor" and "transferee" because they are the terms used in my current situation, which is to transfer the ownership of an account. All these terms and bracketed parts can be edited to suit any occasion for anyone.

The salary of the President of Singapore, currently already the highest official salary among those of all political leaders in the world, is getting increased. From the previous S$3,376,800, it's now raised to S$4,267,500, which would roughly be a S$900k or 26.7% raise. So instead of 4 months, Presidents from now on only need to stay in office for 3 in order to become a millionaire. Stay for half a year, multimillionaire.

At this rate, every President who serves just a single term of 6 years will end up making S$25,605,000 in total. For our current President, he is serving his second term, which means by the end of it in August this year, he'll have made over S$51M.

Best job in the world? Best job in the world.

Compare this with Obama's measly US$400,000 annual salary. Yea really, Obama makes a tenth of what Nathan does. For every year Obama works, he earns just slightly more than what Nathan gets every month. Not to mention Obama gets over 9000 times the shit Nathan does every time he even lifts a finger.

Singapore President > US President.

Therefore if you're a Singaporean, why hesitate about going into politics if you think you have the ability? It may not be the most powerful position in the world, but it is undeniably the cushiest and best-paying available today. Even the Emperors of the Roman Empire didn't get such an epic job, what with all the court intrigue, assassinations, lack of air-conditioners and stuff. In Singapore, the political scene is still pretty similar to the weather in the exosphere, so what intrigue??

EDIT: See? I just made a horrendous mistake by blogging while tired. In the above part about salaries, I appeared to have assumed USD = SGD. Then again, at the current rate of about 1USD = 1.3SGD, it really isn't too far off the mark as far as my rant is concerned. Heck, I'm just going to leave this note here instead of editting the above.

Also, voting in presidential elections or parliamentary elections is compulsory for Singaporeans. If you get the polling card in your PO box, you really should go. The penalty of not voting is that you won't be able to vote anymore in the future, unless you have a valid excuse (eg overseas) or pay S$50.

I never had the opportunity to vote since I hit 21, so I didn't know about this until now. My parents didn't give a damn about politics in Singapore, which was the norm and probably still is. Heck, I don't even know which constituency I'm in.

Been watching the final season of Lost. Either I got used to the crappiness of Chuck and Monk, or that season of Lost was really frickin epic.

Also been getting Russian spam comments on this blog ever since I removed the Captcha requirement for comments. Fortunately the Blogger spam filter is working pretty well, so they all automatically go to the Spam tab. Still.
